This program is right for students who wish to experience the Israeli education system first hand by taking classes taught in English with other study abroad students at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Students who wish to live in a setting surrounded by history and take classes in Israel's largest international program will thrive during a semester in Jerusalem. 

Academics

Hebrew University of Jerusalem was founded in 1925 and has been one of Israel's most prestigious universities. The continuing mission of Hebrew University is to remain a world-renowned institution of higher learning and contribute to cultural and academic development of Israel. The program for study abroad students is based at Hebrew University's Rothberg International School. Overseas students have been attending the Hebrew University since its earliest days and AU students can become part of this diverse, exciting campus community and earn a semester or year of AU credit.

Hebrew University offers a wide variety of courses, offered mainly in English, in such areas as archaeology, history, literature, philosophy, religion, communications, international relations, political science, psychology, sociology and life sciences. Student Life

Experience living and studying in a 3,000 year old city which is also a thriving modern metropolis-Jerusalem, the capital city of Israel! Jerusalem is like no other city on earth. It is holy to the world's three major monotheistic religions, and is incredibly rich in history and culture.

Jerusalem is a densely populated, bustling city full of significant historical sites, restaurants, museums, clubs, and all manner of cultural activities. With a population of 630,000, it is a richly heterogeneous and dynamic city, representing a wide range of cultures.

Hebrew University is composed of multiple campuses, however, the Rothberg International School is centrally located in the main Mount Scopus campus. The campus boasts excellent student facilities including state-of-the-art computer facilities and an athletic and recreational center. Buses are a convenient mode of transportation in Jerusalem and the University provides shuttles between its campuses. More info on housing can be found here.

Housing & Meals

The student housing complexes on Mount Scopus, overlooking the incredible panorama of Jerusalem, are walking distrance from the University. They offer an independent setting appropriate for overseas students. Living in University housing is an important part of the overall experience of studying abroad. RIS students have the opportunity to meet new friends from different cultures and continents – North America, South America, Asia, Africa and Europe – as well as a chance to share experiences with Israeli students.
